Ashton Keynes WI have their second exhibition in the Telephone Gallery. However, this time they have kept their clothes on and have decided to exhibit their stunning mosaic dragonflies made at the monthly meeting in March. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the most people creating mosaics at the same time is 1899 with 588 mosaics made, so whilst we didn’t break any world records, helping 48 women create 49 mosaics in one evening was very definitely a personal best for Kathryn Gray, a community artist ,Telephone Gallery curator, and WI member.
The evening was both sociable and creative, with participants engaging in conversation and laughter while deeply concentrating on their designs to create some beautiful dragonfly mosaics. One visitor remarked on the group's lively atmosphere and how friendly everyone is and how she loved the session. Great feedback indeed!
The mosaics are displayed against a painted backdrop and will look super special at night as it is lit up with twinkling fairy lights.
There's information about the group and a programme for the coming WI year. To find out more about the group, go to www.facebook.com/AshtonKeynesWI or come along to a meeting. The group meets at 7.30pm monthly every second Wednesday in Ashton Keynes Village Hall, apart from August. It's a fun and friendly group that welcomes women aged 18 and over. There's a varied programme of activities and talks. Why not give it try? Your first two visits are usually free, but there might be a small charge for special activities like mosaic making.
